In the wonderful surroundings of Holme Pierrepont Hall, you can sample a range of mindfulness classes & events designed for all levels by Paulo Karat, a university lecturer and registered mindfulness teacher.
Using the Hall in the winter and the gardens in the summer, you will be given space to find some peace and step away from the busy mind. You will learn how to cultivate different ways of relating to the challenges and stresses in life, but also to be fully present in the moments of happiness. .
These classes are for you if you’d like to...
You will learn how mindfulness actually works through a mix of theory and mindfulness 'practices' (including short meditations, mindful movement, walking, QiGong and occasional hatha yoga where appropriate). You will be supported to bring mindfulness into your everyday life - and work - so that you can be the best version of yourself.
Classes draw on a robust grounding in mindfulness theory and practice from the evidence-based '8 Week Courses' (in particular MBSR and MBCT) but are delivered with a lighter touch and with more flexibility to choose your own pace, intensity and direction. MBSR was developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in the 1970s (initially to help patients with acute and chronic pain) and informed the development of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy in the 1990s. MBCT is recommended by NICE and available on the NHS as an intervention for people with a history of 3 or more depressive episodes.
Spring Programme: 'Exploring Mindfulness' Classes
These classes are aimed at all levels, from complete beginners through to experienced mindfulness practitioners. We will use a mix of short 'grounding' practices and longer practices of 20 minutes to explore mindfulness. With a full 90 minute session, we can cater for those who just want some quality time for peaceful practice in inspirational surroundings and those looking to develop, explore and understand their mindfulness practice further within the support of a tutor-led group.
PRICES
Each Exploring Mindfulness Class is priced at £15 or £40 if booked as a block of three (if choosing the £40 option please contact me directly).

Learn about 'mindfulness'. What it is? What does it look and feel like? Perfect for those who are curious about mindfulness and want to see whether it might be right for them. If you're interested but can't make my current slots, contact me to arrange an alternative time.
Paulo is registered on the British Association of Mindfulness-Based Approaches Teachers Register and is completing his Msc in Mindfulness-Based Approaches at the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, University of Bangor. A university lecturer in law, he also teaches mindfulness courses to undergraduates at Nottingham Trent University.
Join me for a mindful walking workshop where you'll learn some principles of mindfulness and the foundations of the art of mindful walking to take away for daily life. You'll also explore the exhibition, Radical Horizons: the Art of Burning Man at Chatsworth through the perspective of mindfulness.
Join me for mindfulness Day Retreats in the gorgeous surroundings of Thornbridge Hall, Derbyshire. In May, I'm running a Step into Spring Mindful Movement Morning Retreat and the Joys of Spring Mindfulness Meditation Afternoon Retreat (or you can make a day of it and enjoy a full Day Retreat at a discounted price)
I was born in Brazil to a Brazilian dad and an English mum. My dad's dad was Egyptian, my dad's mum Portuguese. A bit of a mash-up...
I moved to the UK with mum when I was 8, living for 2 years in South Wales with my grandparents, then to Woking for 2 years, ending up in North Nottinghamshire for school.
Balliol College, Oxford, in the early 90s (Modern History). I then did the law conversion route at Nottingham Law School (though I never felt I was as good at Law as I was at History..!)
I qualified as a solicitor in intellectual property and commercial contracts. I worked out that private practice was not a healthy option for me long term, so I got out to teach at Nottingham Law School. Since then I've started and built up my own business (training & software for lawyers), had a nervous breakdown, a period of severe depression, then got myself better and back into academia: teaching law and studying for a psychology MSc.
I've been life / executive coaching since before my formal Advanced Diploma in 2004. I developed a successful legal sector coaching practice in the Midlands alongside teaching professional courses at Nottingham Law School. I have 'lived experience' of a significant mental health event: a stress-induced breakdown in 2016 involved acute & chronic anxiety and a very severe depression that took me two years to scramble out of. Crucial to this was regular counselling. Inspired by my own experience, I am now a counsellor-in-training and have completed my Level 2 & 3 Counselling Skills qualifications, and will soon begin my studies for the qualifying Level 4 diploma. I am also a trained Mental Health First Aider. Mindfulness is a bedrock for my ongoing wellness and I'm studying for an MSc in Mindfulness-Based Approaches at the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, in the School of Psychology, at the University of Bangor, where I have passed the core mindfulness teaching module.
